Lighting Education

What’s new in lighting? Come visit LightED and become inspired…

LightED is The O’Hanlon Group’s in-house educational and training facility for use by specifiers, installers, and distributors, or anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of current or emerging lighting technologies.

Through LightED, our goal is to reframe the conventional wisdom as it pertains to lighting design and the application of related technologies, to promote the efficient use of energy, and to provide an educational “clearinghouse” for owners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, interior designers, academics and their students, end users, design/build contractors, installers, and electrical wholesalers.

Developed by OHG, our LightED facility provides an ongoing series of lighting-specific programs for presentation at our Knoxville offices, or at a more convenient off-site location. We have presented lighting programs to the local and state chapters of the American Institute Of Architects, the University of Tennessee and East Tennessee State University Interior Design programs, and countless individual architectural and consulting engineering firms. Among the programs currently offered are:

Fundamentals Of Lighting. A beginners guide to the effective use of lighting, current lamp and luminaire technologies, and design approaches.

Lighting By Design - Visual Design Solutions For Green Design Needs. An in-depth overview of the effective use of design software in understanding the behavior of light and its interaction with design materials, providing practice-based documentation for third-party accreditation, and the creative use of color in environmental design.

Architecture + Color = WOW! Lighting, Color & Forms As Design Materials. Recently presented to both the East Tennessee (March, 2010) and Tennessee State Chapters (July 2010) of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), this program explains the effective use of design visualizations, the dynamic possibilities of LED color-changing lighting sources, and the integration of fabric architecture, in expanding the architectural design palette.

Sustainable Lighting For Schools - Green Guidelines For Today. A comprehensive presentation on effective lighting and control methodologies, lighting energy-reduction and daylight strategies, for today's green school requirements.

Green Illumination - A Primer For Users Of Lighting. Focused on integrating green lighting practices and products, this program delivers an overview of current and emerging energy-saving lighting technologies, for any environment.
